Solar energy can be used for getting distilled water. The device used is called solar still. It is made of fiber glass, with a tapered top surface. A glass is fitted on the top surface. The unit has an area of a sq.m. The daily output from the solar still is 2-2.5 liters. This is used in laboratories and battery stations, particularly in remote areas where the use of the solar still for

getting distilled water works out to be an economical proposition. The cost of a unit is around Rs.5000/- and as there are no moving parts, the maintenance cost is negligible.
