    Welcome to the official website of Maharashtra Energy Development Agency (MEDA). This website provides an overview of the various measures taken for promotion of Renewable Energy & Energy Conservation in the State by MEDA. MEDA is working as a State Nodal Agency (SNA) under the aegis of Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Govt. of India. MEDA is also working as a State Designated Agency (SDA) for implementation of Energy Conservation Act, 2001 under the guidance of Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power, Govt. of India and Government of Maharashtra.,

Grid connected RE: 

Maharashtra has installed capacity of 9587 MW renewable energy projects as on 31st March, 2025 which includes Wind-5284.61 MW, Small Hydro-370.075 MW, Bagasse based co-gen. – 2690.30 MW, Biomass Power - 215 MW, Industrial Waste – 58.788 MW (Grid-25.725 MW & Off Grid-33.063MW) & Solar Power –5421.196 MW. Under the Amrut Yojana, a total of 15.809 MW capacities of solar power projects has been successfully commissioned across 12 Municipal Corporations, Councils, Nagar Parishads, and Nagar Panchayats.As per the Renewable Energy Policy 2020.

Solar Power generation:

Government of Maharashtra has declared a RE Policy 2020 on 31.12.2020. Under the said policy, a target of 12930 MW is set for Solar Power Projects up to 2027. Out of this, 10000 MW of target is set for Grid Connected Solar Power Projects & 2000 MW of target is set for rooftop solar power projects. Under the said Policy total 3879.726 MW of Grid Connected Solar Power Project has been registered and 2936.484 MW of Solar Power Project has been commissioned up to 31.03.2025. Further, under various schemes of MNRE and State Policy, total 5421.196 MW capacity solar power projects have been commissioned up to 31 March, 2025 in the State 943 MW of Grid Connected Solar Power Projects are under pipeline and likely to be commissioned in next 1 to 2 years. In rooftop solar power total 3203.61 MW of project has been commissioned till 31.03.2025 in the State (Source MSEDCL Website).

Solar Radiation Resource Assessment (SRRA) Centres:

To accelerate the development of solar power sector, MNRE has decided to setup a network of solar radiation resource assessment station. The Central Govt. has installed 9 solar radiation resource assessment stations & MEDA has installed 8 SRRA stations at (Pune, Thane, Nanded, Aurangabad, Latur, Washim, Nagpur & Chandrapur) from State Govt. fund at various technical institutes in the Maharashtra State.

Offgrid RE:  

As per the State Renewable Energy Policy 2020, various off-grid programmes have been undertaken. Under the Rural Electrification Program, a total of 7,977 solar household systems have been installed, and a tender for 4,000 additional solar household systems is currently in process. In the financial year 2021–22, MEDA has installed a total of 3 Decentralized Solar Micro-Grid Pilot Projects total capacity of 91.2 kW under the Office of Integrated Tribal Development Project (ITDP), Dharni, Distt. Amravati, (District Annual Tribal Sub-Plan). Under the Special Grant Scheme for Special Works from the District Planning Committee, Ahilyanagar, a total of 22 solar cold storage rooms, each with a capacity of 5 MT, have been successfully installed in municipal councils and Nagar Panchayats of Ahmednagar district, implemented through MEDA in financial year 2023–24

Under solarization of Govt./ Semi Govt Building with net metering MEDA has carried out survey of total 2035 buildings with total capacity of 60.87 MW in the state of Maharashtra & Submitted its Technical sanctions to the respective DPDC out of its administrative approval for 540 buildings with total capacity of 11.93 MW has been received & work for 12 nos. buildings (0.472 MW) is completed successfully. Work for 2023 building (60.39 MW) is in progress. The efforts are being made to complete this work upto 31.12.2025.

Model Solar Village under PM – Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, MNRE has issued operational guidelines for Implementation of Component ‘Model Solar Village under PM – Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. As per this guideline, the programme is to be implemented in one village of each District. MEDA & MSEDCL jointly decided to implement this scheme in 36 districts of Maharashtra. MEDA will implement this programme in 12 village of 12 districts namely Pune, Chh. Sambhajinagar, Nagpur, Amravati, Latur, Mumbai city, Mumbai sub- urban, Nashik, sangli, Kolhapur, Satara & Solapur. In balance district MSEDCL will implement this programme.

Chikhaldara, in Amravati District having total capacity of 302.5 kW (i.e Makhala – 71.5 kW, Bicchukheda – 44 kW, Boratyakheda – 77 kW, Raipur – 110 kW).Under the Special Grant Scheme for Special Works from the District Planning Committee, Ahilyanagar, a total of 22 solar cold storage rooms, each with a capacity of 5 MT, have been successfully installed in municipal councils and Nagar Panchayats of Ahmednagar district, implemented through MEDA in financial year 2023–24.

Government of Maharashtra has declared Comprehensive Policy on “Decentralised (Off-grid) Energy Generation Projects based on New and Renewable Energy (Non-conventional) sources-2016”. Under this policy, till date total 57 numbers of Biogas based Power Generation (Off Grid) having capacity 4079 kW has been registered and Subsidy have been distributed to the projects. Government of Maharashtra has declared Scheme for Briquette/Pellet Project. Under this Scheme, MEDA has disbursed subsidy to 213 projects of briquette/Pellet upto the financial year 2024-25.

Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, New Delhi has given sanction for 1,00,000 nos of Solar Agriculture Pumps of Component-B under PM-KUSUM Scheme for FY 2019-20 in the State of Maharashtra and the State Govt. has also approved the scheme. New State RE Policy 2020 having Off-grid programmes includes target of installations of Solar Roof Top Power Plants of 52000 kW, Solar Agriculture Pumps – 1,00,000 nos., Solar Pumps for Mini Water Supply Scheme 2000 nos., Rural Village Electrification of 10 villages, Mircro Grid Project in 20 villages, 55000 m2 collector area under Solar Water Heater Incentive Scheme and 800 nos. of Cold Storage on Solar per year.

Energy Conservation / Efficiency:

MEDA is also functioning as the State Designated Agency for energy conservation and energy efficiency activities in the state. Energy conservation activities are being promoted through various schemes funded by the State budget, including the Save Energy Programme. As of March 2025, a total of 2,267 energy audits have been carried out across various sectors, resulting in substantial energy savings in industries, commercial buildings, Govt. buildings, Residential complex, Water Pumping stations & Street Lighting Systems of Rural & Urban Local Bodies etc.

Under the Walk-Through Energy Audit (Small & Medium Enterprises) scheme, total 4,139 SMEs have been covered up to March, 2025. Under the Demonstration Projects for Energy Conservation in Government/Semi-Government/Urban Local Body Buildings programme, a total of 132 buildings have been covered up to March, 2025 with financial assistance provided by MEDA. In the programme for the installation of energy monitoring devices in street lighting and water pumping systems of Municipal Councils, Municipal Corporations, and Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran, a total of 40 Municipal Councils/Corporations have been covered up to March, 2025.

Apart from the State’s energy conservation schemes, MEDA also implements Energy conservation schemes with the financial assistance from BEE, New Delhi. This includes the replacement of existing inefficient pumps with energy-efficient pumps, a total 22 nos. of Municipal Corporations/Councils have been covered, Implemented Energy Efficient Demo Projects in 22 nos. of Govt. Buildings & in 46 nos. of Govt. Hospitals, Implemented energy efficiency activities in 464 nos. Government Schools and also, implemented Model Energy Efficient Village Campaign programme in 41 nos. of Villages up to March 2025.

Green Hydrogen Eco-System Development -

 “Maharashtra Green Hydrogen Policy-2023”- The "Maharashtra Green Hydrogen Policy-2023" was formulated by MEDA and published by Government of Maharashtra on 17th October 2023, with the goal of promoting Green Hydrogen Production in the state and developing the Green Hydrogen Ecosystem. For smooth implementation of “Maharashtra Green Hydrogen Policy-2023” GoM has also published the Methodology Part -1 on 13th November 2023. MEDA has also executed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Green Hydrogen Developers for total Green Hydrogen Production Capacity of 1010 kTPA.

GoM has published an amendment to the “Maharashtra Green Hydrogen Policy- 2023” on 30.09.2024 for establishment of Anchor units and Experimental anchor units for Green Hydrogen and its Derivative projects, to be selected through competitive bidding process. Further MEDA has taken initiative for development of Green Hydrogen Ecosystem by Skill development for ITI/ Polytechnic/ Engineering college students, establishment of Centre of excellence, Research and Development projects, pilot projects with the help of reputed technological institute. For ease of doing business development of Single Window Portal for Green Hydrogen and its Derivative projects

Draft of “Request for Selection (RfS) for Selection of Green Hydrogen Producers for Setting up Green Hydrogen Production Facilities (Anchor Units) in the State” is also in process and accordingly tender is being floated shortly.
